Classic TT: Anstey raises bar on awesome YZR500 Yamaha

Bruce Anstey bettered his time from Wednesday to set the fastest lap of the week during Classic TT practice for the Formula 1 class at 122.888mph on the Vavoline Padgetts YZR500 Yamaha
Kiwi Bruce Anstey raised the bar for Monday's Motorsport Merchandise Formula 1 race at the Classic TT with the fastest lap of the week on the ex-Grand Prix YZR500 Yamaha.

Anstey lapped at 122.888mph on his second lap on the Valvoline Padgetts two-stroke racer as he bettered his previous benchmark from Wednesday around the 37.73-mile Mountain Course.

Michael Dunlop lapped at 120.505mph on the Team Classic Suzuki XR69 but reported problems, with the machine stuck in fourth gear on the run from the Bungalow.

In the best conditions of the week, John McGuinness laid down a marker for Saturday's Bennetts 500cc race on the Winfield Paton as the Morecambe rider was inside Olie Linsdell's 2013 lap record (111.660mph) with a stunning lap of 112.031mph.

McGuinness headed the times from team-mate Ryan Farquhar at 109.749mph with Anstey on the McIntosh Norton (106.487mph), Ian Lougher on the Flitwick Motorcycles Paton (105.768mph), Davies Motorsport Honda rider William Dunlop (105.739mph) and Michael Dunlop on the Molnar Manx Norton (105.348mph) all having useful shakedowns ahead of the first race day.

Lee Johnston set the fastest lap of the evening in the 350cc class on the Black Eagle Racing 350cc MV Agusta at 99.792mph.

The Bennetts 500cc Classic TT is scheduled for a 12.30pm start over four laps on Saturday.
