Farquhar confirms Superbike return at Isle of Man TT

Ulster road racing star Ryan Farquhar will return to the Superbike, Superstock and Senior races at the Isle of Man TT in 2015 for the first time in three years
Northern Ireland's Ryan Farquhar has confirmed his return to the Superbike and Senior races at the Isle of Man TT this year.

Farquhar, who had limited his appearances to the Supertwin and classic classes after scaling down his racing activities following the death of his uncle at the Manx Grand Prix in 2012, will build a Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbike and also intends to run a Kawasaki Superstock machine.

The 38-year-old will also continue to compete in the Supertwin class and plans to contest the North West 200 in May plus selected Irish National meetings, including Tandragee and Armoy.

Farquhar, who remains the most successful Irish National road racer ever, quit the sport in 2013 following his uncle's tragic accident and focused on running his own KMR Kawasaki team.

He returned to racing last season at a number of handpicked events, finishing seventh in the Lightweight race at the TT and competing in the Classic TT meeting for the first time on Roger Winfield's Yamaha and Paton machines.

However, the Dungannon man has opted to increase his racing exploits in 2015, explaining that limiting his track time to one machine was having an adverse impact on his chances of challenging further up the leaderboard.

“The lack of track time meant it was a struggle for me last year. I think I only did 11 laps in all at the TT and some riders were doing that in a single day,” Farquhar said.

“That's my main reason for coming back in a bigger way for 2015. I won't bother with a 600 because it's too expensive to run a competitive Supersport bike for what I'd get out of it.

“I'm going to ride a Kawasaki Superbike, Superstock and Supertwin this year and it was all or nothing because to go back to the North West and TT with just the one bike is a waste of time.

“I'm back in training again and I haven't done that in years, so I think that tells you I won't be going out there to waste tyres and fuel.”

Farquhar made his TT debut in 2002 after winning the Manx Grand Prix, and now has a total of 13 podiums to his name, as well as three race wins in the 2004 Production 600cc, the 2005 Supersport B and 2012 Lightweight races - a tally he's keen to add to later this year.

The presence of one of the greatest names in road racing on the entry list for all solo classes will be a terrific addition to the event and adds further intrigue and excitement to what's already shaping up to be another stunning TT fortnight.

Farquhar has retained his sponsors from last year, including SGS International and Manx Gas. He will continue to run young roads prospect Connor Behan in his KMR Kawasaki outfit in the Supertwin class, with former Grand Prix rider Jeremy McWilliams riding for the team again at the North West 200 in the Supertwin races.

Both Farquhar and McWilliams will represent the UK Team at the forthcoming International Island Classic meeting at Phillip Island, which takes place from January 23-25.

John McGuinness, Conor Cummins and Aussie Glenn Richards, who holds a British passport, complete the UK team's line-up for the annual event down under.

Nick23: Once it's in your blood, its very hard to leave it....
I know, but seeing as how he said "I don't ever want my wife and girls to go through something like this" (referring to the death of his uncle) and then starting to race again seems a little odd.

More than suprised at this as Ryan was very clear in his mind and for family reasons he was hanging up his leathers, which, after a long career was I believe the correct decision. He must not be completely happy just to run his own team for others to ride his bikes in that he olso has to be part of the rider makeup. Is this down to the rider drug of riding or is there an additional finincial side to it and if the latter is the case then you are playing with fire. it's Ryan's choice and the best of luck to him, however, in my view he has had a long career and should retire. You can overstay your welcome in this game. Different if he was a single man.
