Tandragee 100: Dunlop clinches maiden win on Tyco BMW

William Dunlop wins the feature Superbike race at the Tandragee 100 to complete a double in the wet and seal his first win of the season on the Tyco BMW Superstock machine
William Dunlop clinched his debut win on the Tyco BMW Superstock machine in the feature race at a wet Tandragee 100 on Saturday.

Dunlop, who finished as the runner-up behind Ryan Farquhar in the opening Superbike race on Friday night, was in a class of his own as moved ahead of early leader Jamie Hamilton (Burrows Suzuki) before pulling a huge gap on the S1000RR.

The Ballymoney rider was a late entry for the Tyco team at Tandragee, where Dunlop was keen for more track time on the machine ahead of the North West 200.

He narrowly missed out on victory on Friday evening after a race-long battle with Farquhar, losing out to the experienced SGS/KMR Kawasaki rider by less than half-a-second.

However, he made amends on Saturday to win the big race of the day by almost 29 seconds from Hamilton, with new Wilson Craig rider Derek McGee completing the rostrum places.

Farquhar and Scottish rider Keith Amor – who are both making their return to the 1000cc class this season – were non-starters in the main Superbike race, with cold and wet weather leaving conditions treacherous around the 5.3-mile Co. Armagh track.

Dunlop completed a double as he won the Supersport race in commanding fashion, leading from pole to win with 8.6 seconds in hand from McGee and Hamilton on the Chris Dowd/Ivan Curran Racing Yamaha.

It was the 29-year-old's third victory on the roads so far this season after Dunlop scored a brace in the class at the Cookstown 100.

Farquhar also opted out of the Supertwin race on Saturday, but still managed to seal a treble as he won the Classic race on Roger Winfield's Paton from Paul Coward and claimed victory overall in the Lightweight race on his Moto450 Kawasaki.

Jeremy McWilliams – also riding a Winfield Paton – finished third on his Tandragee debut with an impressive ride in the Classic race behind Farquhar and Coward.

Mullingar rider McGee came out on top in the Supertwins race, crossing the line well clear of Hamilton to earn his first victory of 2015 on the Emerald Kawasaki.

All roads now lead to the North West 200, where practice is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 12.
