NW200: Seeley holds off Dunlop for Superstock pole

Tyco BMW's Alastair Seeley has secured pole for the Superstock races at the North West 200 with a lap of 120.196mph to edge out Michael Dunlop by 0.7 seconds
Alastair Seeley kept Michael Dunlop at bay to secure pole position for the Superstock class at the Vauxhall International North West 200 after a red-hot final qualifying session.

Seeley was only 1mph shy of Austrian rider Horst Saiger's lap record as he sealed the top spot with a lap of 120.196mph on the Tyco BMW.

The Carrick rider, who clinched his first victory on the S1000RR in the most recent round of the Pirelli National Superstock Championship at Oulton Park on Bank Holiday Monday, was only 0.7 seconds ahead of Dunlop, who put in a late fast lap on his MD Racing Yamaha R1 at 119.861mph.

Lee Johnston grabbed a front row spot on his ECC/Burdens BMW, 4.3 seconds behind Seeley, with the top six completed by Martin Jessopp on the Riders Motorcycles BMW, Horst Saiger (Kawasaki) and Dean Harrison on the Mar-Train Yamaha R1.

William Dunlop was seventh fastest on his Tyco BMW but missed the chance of bettering his time after stopping with a problem at the Ballysally Roundabout.

Guy Martin (Tyco BMW), Michael Rutter (Penz13.com BMW) and Bruce Anstey on Clive Padgett's Honda completed the top ten.

The opening Superstock race takes place on Thursday evening following practice as part of a three-race programme, which also includes the first Supertwins and Supersport events.
