NW200: McWilliams turns tables on Farquhar

Jeremy McWilliams outgunned his SGS/KMR Kawasaki team boss Ryan Farquhar to win Saturday's Supertwin race at the North West 200
Jeremy McWilliams turned the tables on his SGS/KMR Kawasaki team boss Ryan Farquhar to win Saturday's Supertwins race – his second at the event.

Farquhar led in the early stages but there was literally nothing in it with the Dungannon man, McWilliams and Jamie Hamilton continually swapping the lead.

Each rider took it in turns to lead and on the third lap, McWilliams and Farquhar managed to give each other the thumbs-up on the high-speed run from Station Corner to University.

Going into the final lap, Farquhar was in the lead once more but it was still anyone's race and all three riders had their turn in the lead approaching University.

Hamilton made a mistake though and dropped back, leaving the Kawasaki team-mates to battle it out.

Ex-Grand Prix rider McWilliams hit the front going into the Mather's Cross chicane and immediately opened up a small cushion, which he was ultimately able to maintain despite a moment on the entry and exit of Metropole.

Farquhar gave it his all along the Coast Road but it wasn't quite enough and he crossed the line in second for a reversal of the result on Thursday evening.

Hamilton took third, with Christian Elkin finishing in fourth position.

“It's fantastic to see one of my bikes on the top step again and that's what matters most,” said Farquhar.

“After Thursday's race, I knew Jeremy would be strong again so for us to have another one-two makes me equally happy. It's great for the sponsors and everyone connected with KMR Kawasaki and fair play to Jeremy.

“He's such a professional and such a great rider, it's a pleasure and a privilege to have him in the team.”
