Southern 100: Harrison makes amends with Supersport victory

Mar-Train Racing's Dean Harrison wins second Supersport race at Southern 100 after battery issued denied Bradford star certain victory in 600 opener.
Mar-Train Racing's Dean Harrison made amends for the disappointment of his final lap retirement in Wednesday's Supersport race by winning the second 600cc event at the Southern 100.

The Bradford rider was leading the Supersport opener by more than four seconds on the final lap when a flat battery ruled him out, handing victory to Northern Ireland's Seamus Elliott.

Harrison, though, put the misfortune behind him to seal a comfortable win on the R6 for the Ulster team in the S&S Motors 600 race by 2.7 seconds from Ivan Lintin on the RC Express Kawasaki, with Manx rider Dan Kneen completing the rostrum places in third on the Valvoline Padgetts Honda.

“We couldn't have got any closer to the finish last night but the bike was absolutely spot on today,” Harrison said.

“It was good to get a finish and a good consistent race. It was just a battery problem last night and one of those things no-one could prevent.

“I was comfortable and could have pushed harder so I'm happy with that.”

It was Kneen who made the early running on the opening lap from Lintin but Harrison was on the move and hit the front for the first time on the second lap.

The 26-year-old was never headed afterwards and gradually pulled further ahead of Lintin, who slotted into second place as Kneen began to drop back into a safe third.

Russ Mountford lost a lot of ground after the opening laps with an apparent mistake dropping him down the order, while Jamie Coward was involved in a battle for fourth with James Cowton and Wednesday's winner Elliott until he disappeared from the race, with machine trouble reportedly ruling him out.

Cowton eventually claimed fourth place from Elliott, with Mountford battling back to clinch sixth place.

Earlier, Ulsterman Davy Morgan won the 600cc B race.
