Hegarty set for TT return in RTR Motorcycles deal

English rider Dan Hegarty will aim to continue his impressive progress at the Isle of Man TT in 2016 after signing a deal with RTR Motorcycles.
Nottingham's Dan Hegarty will return to the Isle of Man TT in 2016 after signing a deal with RTR Motorcycles with backing from Downshift Limited.

Hegarty, who is making impressive progress through the road racing ranks, will also contest selected events at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough, including the prestigious Gold Cup.

The team has yet to confirm machinery but Hegarty will compete in the RST Superbike, RL360 Superstock, Monster Energy Supersport and PokerStars Senior TT Races.

β€œI am glad of the way I have progressed over my years competing at the TT. There's so much to take in when you're learning the TT course but next year will be my sixth year on the Isle of Man and every year I get more confident round there,” Hegarty said.

β€œIt's great to have the deal with RTR Motorcycles/Downshift Ltd sorted well ahead of the new season which gives me loads of time to keep working hard towards my goals.”

Hegarty made his debut at the TT in 2011 and produced his best performances this year, earning a solid 13th place finish in the RST Superbike race.

He followed that up with a top 20 result in the RL360 Superstock Race and 18th in the prestigious Senior TT, rounding off his most consistent TT to date. He also improved his fastest lap around the TT Course to 126.5mph on the final lap of this year's Senior TT.

At the Gold Cup meeting in September at Scarborough, Hegarty rounded off the year in style with an excellent fourth in the feature race on his Downshift Motorsport Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The 2016 Isle of Man TT is scheduled to run from May 28 June 10.
