Guy Martin's quest to win an eighth Scarborough Gold Cup has been scuppered by a blood infection that prompted a hospital stay.

Martin was looking to bring a successful first year as a Relentless By TAS Suzuki racer to a satisfying conclusion with victory at Oliver's Mount, but a four-day stay in hospital with a blood infection has forced him to withdraw.

A seven-time winner of the event from 2003 to 2009, Martin was frustrated to be missing his local meeting.
