MV Agusta to make TT return in 2012

30 November 2011

The iconic MV Agusta brand will return to Isle of Man TT competition in 2012 as part of an ambitious project being formed by World Performance Racing.

The Italian manufacturer is synonymous with the famed road racing event, winning 34 TT races and 61 podiums between 1952 and 1972, its machines ridden by the likes of Giacomo Agostini – a ten-time winner -, John Surtees and Mika Hailwood.

The brand has not tread the Manx roads since 2007 when the late Martin Finnegan finished fourth in the Superstock class, but 2012 will see it return under WPR banner, which will take all-new, factory backed F3 and F4 machines to the event.

“World Performance Racing represents a passion for motorcycle racing and the desire to bring MV Agusta, the iconic motorcycle brand with a unique heritage, to the celebrated Isle of Man TT races in 2012,” said WPR manager Neil Haslam. “We aim to restore MV Agusta back to winning ways and ensure that the 2012 TT will be another chapter in this great Italian's brand's history.”

The MV Agusta project will also be run in association with Moto GB.
