NW200: Easton shines on roads return

17 May 2013

Stuart Easton made an encouraging return to the North West 200 as the British Supersport star finished fifth in his comeback at the event.

Easton was involved in a serious accident during practice at the North West in 2011 and missed the international road race last year, but he produced a strong performance in difficult conditions to give the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha team a top five result in the first Supersport race on Thursday.

The 29-year-old battled his way through from 15th position on the first of five laps of the 8.9-mile circuit and eventually posted the third fastest time of the race on his way to fifth position.

“The race was a real tyre gamble with the conditions and the intermediate rear made for a slow start to the race, but after a couple of laps I got a good feel and started to come through,” he said.

“Once into the top ten, I could see [John] McGuinness and Co in front of me, so I plugged away and managed a top five which I'm happy enough with, considering the sketchy conditions.

“The third fastest lap shows we maybe could have had a podium, so it sets us up nicely for Saturday and I enjoyed it.”
