Gary Johnson opted to run his own Superstock Kawasaki and Honda Superbike machines on the roads this year and teamed up with Jack Valentine's Valmoto Racing outfit to ride the factory-backed MV Agusta 675 in the Supersport class.

At the North West 200, the Lincolnshire rider finished on the rostrum in difficult conditions in third position behind Alastair Seeley and Bruce Anstey to make a bright start to the international meetings.

He looked on course for another Isle of Man TT victory in the Superstock race before a stunning record lap of 131.220mph by Michael Dunlop demoted the Broughton man to the runner-up spot.

Johnson experienced bitter disappointment with two DNFs in the Superbike and Senior TT races on his Honda Fireblade but earned a solid ninth place in the second Supersport race on the MV Agusta after retiring from the opener.

He was again denied an international victory by Dunlop at the Ulster Grand Prix in the Superstock race on his Kawasaki, settling for second place at Dundrod after leading in the early stages to complete a clean sweep of international podiums on his Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Johnson ended the year at the Macau Grand Prix with a strong third place finish behind Ian Hutchinson and Michael Rutter.

A TT winner in the Supersport class in 2011, Johnson is a class act with the ability to achieve more international success in 2014, when he will rate as one of the big favourites in the Superstock class especially.
