The Lincs FM Scorpions opened up their Conference Trophy campaign with an emphatic 58-35 win over their South Lincolnshire rivals, the Boston Barracuda Braves, at the Scunthorpe Raceway on Sunday afternoon.

Leading the way was Josh Auty with 14 points and 2 bonus points but he was very well supported by the rest of the team. The visitors' star rider Jon Armstrong was defeated by Richie Dennis in the first race and Richie looks to have re-found his form after struggling a little earlier in the season.

Byron Bekker, the club's 19-year old South African rider, is in the form of his life and he, like Auty, was only beaten by Armstrong whilst 15-year old Joe Haines beat both opponents in three of his rides before being team-ridden out by Rob Smith and Cal McDade in heat 8. Benji Compton and Scott Richardson provided valuable support as the Scorpions rattled up nine heat advantages, five of them maximums.

With the aggregate point almost guaranteed the Scorpions will head to King's Lynn for the return leg next Friday with only one thing on their mind, a twelfth consecutive victory against their local rivals.

After that the team will head to the hills next Sunday as they travel to Buxton for their next Conference Trophy meeting before the two teams return to the Scunthorpe Raceway on Monday afternoon.
