GT Open: What to expect at Silverstone

9 July 2013

This weekend, the International GT Open heads to Silverstone for the latest round of the season, with the event being the first to be held at the 'Home of British Motorsport'.

A bumper field of GT2 and GT3 cars are set to do battle in two races, with ex-F1 man Andrea Montermini seeking to maintain his lead in the championship standings ahead of Scuderia Villorba Corse co-driver Luca Filippi – who sits 14 points behind having missed the second race at Portimao back in May due to F1 commentary commitments at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Montermini also heads the Super GT standings by six points from Filippi while in GTS, Spaniard Miguel Toril holds a slender four point advantage over Italian duo Lorenzo Bontempelli and Nicola De Marco.

With a bumper field set to do battle at Silverstone – thanks to the addition of a number of new entries including the Team LNT Ginetta and a Lamborghini Gallardo entered by the debuting Rinho's Leipert Motorspor squad.

To get a flavour of what to expect, check out the video below from the previous event at Jerez as Miguel Ramos and Nicky Pastorelli took victory in their Corvette in a race that had to be red-flagged after the Porsche of Niccolò Schirò and Archie Hamilton caught fire; the damage sustained being enough to rule Hamilton out of his home event.
