Ginetta man gets a shock at Brands Hatch – VIDEO

Mike Simpson gets an unwelcome surprise as he makes a forward charge during the latest round of the British GT Championship
Ginetta factory driver Mike Simpson received an unwelcome surprise in the latest round of the British GT Championship – with an errant flying door putting his car out of contention at Brands Hatch.

Driving the Team LNT-entered Ginetta G55 in the GT3 class, Simpson had stormed through the field in the opening stages to run inside the top three when his car was struck by the door – which had come away from a GT4 Ginetta - on the run down Hawthorn Hill.

Despite the impact smashing the windscreen on his car, Simpson was able to continue at speed for the remainder of the lap before being forced to pit - with the radiator having also been damaged in the impact.

“Team LNT had a cracking opening ten laps in British GT, climbing from 17th to third over the opening laps,” Simpson said. “As we continue to establish the G55 GT3 as a capable GT3 car, the collision was an issue outside of our control.

“Yes it destroyed the windscreen and the radiator, but it's a good job we build them strong at Ginetta, or it could have been a different story!”
