Edwards to be honoured at Petit Le Mans

Sean Edwards to be honoured by the American Le Mans Series during the 2013 season finale at Petit Le Mans
The American Le Mans Series has announced plans to honour the memory of Sean Edwards during the final round of the season at Petit Le Mans this weekend.

The 26-year-old Briton was killed in an accident in Queensland while instructing alongside a 20-year-old from Brisbane, who was trapped in the Porsche 996 for three hours and remains in hospital.

As well as competing in the Porsche Supercup this season, Edwards had also been racing in the ALMS as part of his 2013 programme and sat fourth in the GTC class standings going into the season finale.

All cars in the race will now run a special memorial decal designed by motorsport artist Andy Blackmore, created from an illustration of Edwards' helmet.

“All of us at the American Le Mans Series extend our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Sean Edwards,” Scott Atherton, president and CEO of the ALMS said. “Sean was a rising star in sports car racing who found success in the United States and around the world.

“We will remember him as a driver and a human being with so much potential. He will be dearly missed.”
