Memo Gidley is to undergo further surgery today [Friday] following his huge accident in last weekend's Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing driver was involved in a huge accident in the early stages of the USCC-season opener after smashing into the rear of the Ferrari of Matteo Malucelli, which had slowed on track with a mechanical issue, at more than 100mph.
Gidley has already undergone two rounds of surgery
having sustained multiple fractures to his left leg and elbow, as well as a compression fraction in his lower back, in the incident.
The GAINSCO team has now confirmed that Gidley will now undergo surgery on his left heel in hospital, with further updates to follow when the surgery is completed.
It is expected that Gidley will remain in hospital for at least another week as he continues his recovery.
