Rebellion extends Belicchi deal for 2014 WEC

Andrea Belicchi will remain a Rebellion Racing driver for a seventh season after signing a new deal with the WEC entrant.
Rebellion Racing has extended its relationship with Andrea Belicchi for the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship campaign.

The Italian driver has been part of the team since its beginning and has successfully represented it in GT, LMP2 and LMP1. Last season, he won two rounds of the LMP1 Endurance Trophy at Fuji – where he helped his car to finish third overall - and Shanghai, as well as taking three other podium finishes in class.

"We're pleased that Andrea will be with Rebellion Racing again in 2014,” team manager Bart Hayden commented, “This will be our seventh year together, so we know each other very well.

“Andrea has been and remains a key member of the team. He is quick, reliable, loyal and he shares our great team spirit. His efficient driving style will fit well with the new regulations and we are confident that he will help us to achieve the very best results."

Belicchi's extension comes ahead of the WEC's pre-season test at Paul Ricard, where reigning GP2 Series champion Fabio Leimer is expected to get a run-out in one of Rebellion's Lolas.

"I am delighted at the prospect of being a Rebellion Racing driver again in 2014,” Belicchi said, “The championship will be really exiting with the new regulations, all the new cars and our new R-One LMP1. I have followed the development of the car and was involved at some stages of the development, so I can't wait to drive it!”

Nick Heidfeld, Mathias Beche, Nicolas Prost, Dominik Kraihamer comprise the rest of the existing Rebellion squad and all expect to see some action during the Paul Ricard test.
