Mark Webber says he cannot wait to get behind the wheel of Porsche's much anticipated World Endurance Championship and Le Mans contender, the 919 Hybrid, once again as the start of the 2014 season gets underway at Silverstone.
The former Red Bull Racing F1 driver makes the switch to the WEC in 2014 to spearhead Porsche's much anticipated return to the sportscar arena.
A project that began back in 2011, Porsche has put a mammoth effort into bringing its 919 Hybrid to life and early signs in testing suggest it has already brought itself up to speed alongside its Audi and Toyota rivals.
Together with innovations in hybrid technology set to make efficiency more crucial than ever in 2014, Webber has high hopes around the venue for his final F1 win.
The hybrid technology is all about efficiency and performance which are both in Porsche's DNA anyway. There is a lot of crossover between racing and road cars which fits well to the brand. For us in the cockpit it's pretty busy but the best guys will still find a way to be quickest.
“For me Silverstone is like a home race and it is also the venue where I won my last Grand Prix back in 2012. I can't wait to turn the first laps there with the 919 Hybrid.”
Webber will share his car with Timo Benhard and Brendon Hartley, while Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb will share the other car.
