Audi moved to the head of the timesheets during the second free practice session for the 2014 Silverstone 6 Hours, the opening round of the 2014 World Endurance Championship.
Having played second fiddle to Porsche in FP1, both Audi R18 e-tron Quattros were on the pace in FP2, with sportscar newcomer Lucas di Grassi doing the honours in the car he will share with Tom Kristensen and Loic Duval.
Heading up an Audi 1-2, Andre Lotterer brought the other R18 up to second position, pushing the lead Toyota of Alex Wurz, Stephane Sarrazin and Kazuki Nakajima down to third position. Making his first appearance on track today, Mark Webber turned in the fourth best time to be lead Porsche 919 Hybrid driver in the car he will share with Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard, with the second Toyota in fifth.
Faster than the FP1 pace setting Porsche of Romain Dumas, the lead Rebellion Racing Lola B/12 Toyota was a fine sixth best with a time just two seconds slower than the pace setters.
The G-Drive Morgan-Nissan continued to set the pace in the LMP2 class, ahead of the KCMG prototype, with the two SMP Racing machines following up in a close, but small field.
In the LMGTE Pro class, Porsche continues to lead the way, this time with the Marc Lieb, Frederic Makowiecki and Marco Holzer in front, while the 911 was also the clear pace setter in the LMGTE Am class, with the Prospeed machine up to 16th overall, ahead of several Pro cars.
