ELMS: New LMP3 class announced

The ACO announces the introduction of the new LMP3 class, which will slot beneath LMP1 and LMP2 to provide entry-level sportscar experience
A new entry-level prototype category has been announced for the European Le Mans Series and the Asian Le Mans Series, the LMP3 class.

Slotting in below the LMP1 class, which headlines the World Endurance Championship, and LMP2, which forms the basis for the European Le Mans Series, LMP3 will go beneath these and is intended to provide a starting point for burgeoning teams.

Set to run in support of ELMS and Asian LMS for the time being, the category replaces Formula Le Mans and will make its debut from the 2015 season.

Full details and regulations will be revealed at this weekend's third ELMS round at the Red Bull Ring.
