WEC: Lotus confirms drivers for LMP1 debut

European F3 race winner Lucas Auer joins James Rossiter and Christophe Bouchut in driving the new Lotus T129-AER in the United States.
Lotus has confirmed Lucas Auer will join James Rossiter and Christophe Bouchut in driving the team's new T129-AER in the upcoming 6 Hours of the Circuit of the Americas, the fourth FIA World Endurance Championship round.

After several production delays, Lotus will return to WEC competition in the United States with its newly-created T129 chassis, stepping up to the LMP1-L class for privateer entries having competed in LMP2 last season.

Though several drivers have been linked with the project, including new Caterham F1 team principal Christijan Albers, Lotus has now announced that its three man line-up will comprise of British driver Rossiter, experienced Frenchman Bouchut and F3 front runner Auer.

A return to Lotus for Auer having raced with the team in Bahrain last year, the Austrian – who is currently fourth in the FIA European F3 standings – is looking forward to getting to grips with the brand-new car.

“I know neither the track nor the car,” Auer said. “But I learn quickly and I am looking forward to this new challenge. I reckon that the step from the LMP2 last year to the current LMP1 car will be considerable, but I don't see that as a problem either. Quite the contrary!

“After my participation at Bahrain last year, I always stayed in touch with the Lotus team. I am delighted that I will now get another chance to race with them.”
