WEC: OAK bolsters LMP2 presence

OAK Racing will enter a second LMP2 machine for three of the remaining five World Endurance Championship rounds.
Leading sportscar team OAK Racing has announced it will enter an additional LMP2 car for three of the remaining five 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship rounds, albeit with different driver line-ups.

Currently represented in the WEC under the G-Drive banner, with that team switching to the new closed-roof Ligier JS 2 LMP2 prototype from the upcoming Circuit of the Americas event, the existing Morgan-Judd machine will instead be put to use in an occasional second entry for Fuji, Shanghai and Bahrain.

Starting in Japan, British driver Alex Brundle, experienced female racer Keiko Ihara and leading USCC competitor Gustavo Yacaman will comprise the first trio to drive the car.

In Shanghai, local drivers David Cheng and Ho-Pin Tung will join forces with OAK newcomerr American Mark Patterson, before Patterson, Tung and Ihara team up for the Bahrain round.

“Our job running the car for G-Drive Racing has enabled us stay in the FIA WEC after our fantastic year in 2013,” said OAK Racing President Jacques Nicolet.

“For the second part of the 2014 season starting with Fuji we're entering for three rounds a Morgan-Judd LM P2 with which we've racked up numerous successes so we'll beef up the field in LM P2 in this championship with a car in the colours of OAK Racing. I'm delighted to welcome back drivers that we appreciate very much to our team as well as newcomer Mark Patterson.”
