Porsche says it will now put all of its efforts into turning the 919 Hybrid into a World Endurance Championship race winner after intentionally compromising itself in earlier rounds with a view to succeeding at Le Mans.

The German manufacturer showed flashes of pace during the opening Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps events, but openly admitted it was developing the new 919 Hybrid LMP1 challenger to be best suited to competing at Le Mans.

Though Porsche's Le Mans endeavour came to a disappointing conclusion when both cars retired with just 90mins of the race to go having looked on course for a podium, the firm is now committed to ensuring the car can match Audi and Toyota during the shorter 6 hour races.
