WEC: KCMG celebrates maiden LMP2 victory

British drivers Matthew Howson and Richard Bradley, help KCMG secure its first-ever LMP2 victory in the World Endurance Championship.
The Hong Kong-based KCMG team is celebrating after coming out on top of an intense LMP2 battle to secure its first FIA World Endurance Championship class win at the Circuit of the Americas.

With regular British drivers Matthew Howson and Richard Bradley teaming up with experienced Japanese racer Tsugio Matsuda for the American WEC round, the KCMG Oreca Nissan led away early on, but shared the lead with the wild-card ESM HPD Honda and the two SMP Racing machines over the course of the six hour race, which was in turn hampered by poor weather at times.

Despite occasional carnage, which included a spin for Matsuda whilst he was attempting to take the lead from Maurizio Mediani, the trio would eventually emerge on top, sealing its first class win.

“I'm absolutely on top of the world after taking our first LMP2 win in FIA WEC,” said Howson. “We've been aiming for the win all season, but the class is very close and a lot can go wrong in six hours. To deliver that win at CoTA in crazy conditions is a great feeling.

“It puts us back in the championship fight, and shows our rivals we mean business. A huge thank you to all at KCMG for giving us the car and strategy to win. Roll on Fuji!”
