WEC Fuji: Pla leads Ligier to first LMP2 win

Olivier Pla recovers ground lost by a late puncture to secure Ligier's first LMP2 win in the World Endurance Championship.
The new Ligier JSP2 coupe has taken its first World Endurance Championship LMP2 win in Fuji after a frantic end to the 6 hour race saw it grab victory in the final hour.

The OAK Racing-prepared G-Drive Racing car looked on course for victory with the new chassis, which was introduced to WEC at the previous Austin round, but a puncture in the final hour would drop it to second place at a crucial moment,

Despite this, former GP2 race winner Olivier Pla was able to catch and overtake its KCMG rivals to ensure a win for himself and team-mates Julian Canal and Roman Rusinov.

”You think that it's easy, but it never is. We had things under control until the last stint. Unfortunately, with the puncture, we didn't take a risk and decided to return to the pits to change the rear left tyre. From there, I only had one option, which was to attack like never before and to push the car to its limits to catch up to the #47 again.

“Once I was back up to it, I tried to overtake it on turn 10, but I wasn't close enough. Afterwards, we hit some traffic, and I managed to overtake on the outside of turn 5. Afterwards, I knew that I had the right car to widen the gap. Frankly, it's a great victory and the first victory for the Ligier JS P2 which is very important for all the work done up until now. It's just great.”
