Porsche led the way after the first day of free practice for the final round of the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship in Brazil, with Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard topping both sessions.
The final chance for Porsche to secure a WEC win with the 919 Hybrid in its first season of competition, the German firm emerged 1-2 at the end of both sessions around the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paolo, though all six LMP1-H contenders were closely matched.
Audi followed up in third and fourth, the #1 machine of Lucas di Grassi, Loic Duvall and soon-to-retire Tom Kristensen ahead of the #2 car of Benoit Treluyer, Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer, just one and three tenths adrift respectively. On the weekend it can wrap up the manufacturers' title, Toyota followed up in fifth and sixth respectively, headed by drivers' champions Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi.
The only drivers' title left to be decided this weekend, the LMP2 class was led comfortably by Roman Rusinov, Julian Canal and Olivier Pla in the G-Drive Ligier, ahead of its main championship rivals Sergey Zlobin, Nicolas Minassian and Marco Mediani in the SMP Oreca by more than half a second.
In the GT classes, Aston Martin filled the top three positions, with the Vantage V8 of Adam MacDowall, Darryl O'Young and Fernando Rees leading the way from Darren Turner and Stefan Mucke.
