Mark Webber is in a "satisfactory condition" after spending a night in hospital following a crash in the final World Endurance Championship round at Interlagos.

Having started the race from pole, Webber's #20 Porsche had fallen away from the lead when he was caught out attempting to lap the GT Ferrari of Matteo Cressoni, hitting the wall at high speed and destroying the rear of his car.

Webber was seen waving to the crowd as he was carried away on a stretcher and he was taken to hospital in S?o Paulo, where a statement on his website said he was in a "satisfactory condition" after the incident.

"Mark has been taken to a local hospital in Sao Paulo and will stay overnight for precautionary checks," the statement read. "He is in a satisfactory condition and his team mates Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley have gone to see him. Thanks to everyone for your messages!"

The crash was big enough to see the race finish under the safety car, with the #14 car of Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb taking Porsche's first WEC win.
