USCC: Pla, Brundle join Krohn for Daytona assault

Olivier Pla and Alex Brundle join Krohn Racing to drive its new Ligier LMP2 entry in the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Krohn Racing has confirmed Olivier Pla and Alex Brundle will join its four-man driver line-up for the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona at the wheel of the Ligier JS P2 prototype.

A stalwart of the American GT scene, Krohn Racing will step up to prototype competition in 2015 after taking delivery of the Ligier JS P2 closed-roof LMP2 coupe, with a full season of European Le Mans racing planned, as well as a handful of outings in the United Sports Car Championship, starting with the Daytona endurance event.

Owner-driver Tracy Krohn and long-time associate Nic Jonsson will form the regular driver line-up, but Pla and Brundle will come on board the for Rolex 24 classic in order to help the team better understand the Ligier chassis, which will be powered by a Judd engine.

Both Pla and Brundle have helped develop Ligier's already-successful machine in partnership with Onroak Automotive, campaigning it in the Le Mans 24 Hours, while Pla drove it in the final five rounds of the 2014 World Endurance Championship with G-Drive.

"We had a lot of discussion concerning the driver lineup for the 24 Hours of Daytona,” said Krohn. “There are so many excellent drivers with loads of experience and proven records, so it was a quality problem trying to determine who would be best for this race. All that said, we decided that we would be best served by relying on proven drivers with the most time in the Ligier chassis.

“We think that with Olivier Pla and Alex Brundle we have met all of those specs and more. They are both proven champions and have done much of the development work on the Ligier chassis and Judd engine combination. We couldn't be more pleased."

"I'm really happy to come back to the U.S. with Krohn Racing, joining Tracy and Nic in their new Ligier JSP2 Judd-powered,” added Pla. “I have done all the testing and development with Alex with Onroak so we know the car perfectly. I had the chance to meet the whole Krohn Racing team when they tested the new Ligier for the first time at Estoril and the way they operated make me feel we have a very strong package all together and with all the extensive testing the team has been doing I just can't wait for the 24 Hours of Daytona!"
