WEC: Sorensen joins Young Driver Aston Martin for WEC

Lotus F1 test driver Marco Sorensen has joined an all-Danish line up at Young Driver AMR for 2015 WEC and Le Mans
Marco Sorensen has announced he will race for Young Driver AMR in the World Endurance Championship and the 24-hour Le Mans race, as the team steps up to the GTE-Pro class.

The Danish driver, who competed in the Formula Renault 3.5 series and GP2 last year, joins the Young Driver AMR team that collected the GTE-Am title in 2014 and is now making the move to the GTE-Pro class.

Sorensen, 24, joins fellow Danes Christoffer Nygaard and Nicki Thiim in the Young Driver AMR line-up and will drive Aston Martin's venerable Vantage GTE.

“My goal is still to race in Formula 1, but it will not harm my ambitions if I gain experience in other classes,” Sorensen said. “I followed sportscar racing and especially the 24 hours of Le Mans in the past years and I'm really looking forward to my first start at Le Mans.”

Jan Struve of Young Driver AMR said it was the right time to switch classes after being crowned GTE Am champions last year with Kristian Poulsen, Nicki Thiim and David Heinemeier-Hansson and is delighted to welcome Sorensen to the team.

“It's a challenge to compete against the World's leading teams, but already in 2014 we proved that we can race them,” Struve said.

As well as the addition of GP2 race winner Sorensen to the line-up, Poulsen and Thiim join forces having raced in different Young Driver AMR cars in 2014.

Heinemeier-Hansson - who helped the team to success in the Le Mans 24 Hours too - will switch to the incoming Tequila Patron ESM team in LMP2 for 2015.

Mathias Lauda is expected to drive for Young Driver AMR in the GTE Am class this year.
