Rolex 24: Dalziel excited to drive new HPD prototype

Ryan Dalziel is preparing to race Tequila Patrón ESM's new Honda Performance Development car and is targeting a prototype class victory in Daytona
Ryan Dalziel has said he is 'really excited' to show off Tequila Patrón ESM's new Honda Performance Development car at the Rolex 24-hour race in Daytona.

The prestigious 24-hour race at the Daytona International Speedway will host the debut of the Honda-powered ARX-04b coupe and Dalziel is targeting a first victory for ESM in Florida.

“Daytona is going to be a huge weekend for us,” Dalziel, former winner at Daytona in 2010, said. “With a new car and new teammates we are really excited to show everyone what our new HPD can do. We haven't had the No. 1 car for very long and the crew has worked ridiculous hours to get us ready for the Rolex 24 At Daytona.”

Dalziel will co-drive with owner and another former Rolex 24 winner Scott Sharp alongside newcomer David Heinemeier Hansson in the number one Tequila Patron car. Ed Brown, Johannes van Overbeek and Jon Fogarty will take control in the team's second car.

The Scottish driver has switched back into closed cockpit racing in ESM's new prototype but is confident he will be quick from the very start.

“Going back with a closed cockpit car shouldn't change things too much, but the obvious stuff will be a new learning curve, like visibility and driver changes,” Dalziel said. “Scott and I are starting our second year together as teammates and we really have things very connected between us and so far David has slipped into his role perfectly.

“The Rolex 24 is the first round of the Patrón Endurance Cup and we really want a strong showing for all the Patrón racing fans.”
