Rolex 24: 'Lack of power' disappoints Pla in Daytona

Olivier Pla called the lack of power from his Judd engine unfortunate after he qualified sixth on the grid for the Rolex 24, while the Honda-powered sister car claimed pole
Olivier Pla has blamed the 'lack of power' from the Judd engine for his below-par qualifying session, with Ligier JS P2 starting sixth on the grid for the Rolex 24-hour race in Daytona.

Pla's team mates were able to claim pole position in their Honda-powered Ligier prototype and the French driver said his car would have contested pole had it not been for the lower straight-line speeds. The Judd-powered prototype qualified with a best lap time of 1.39.683s, less than half a second behind its sister car.

"It was not a bad qualifying for us considering the lack of power and straight line speed we have at the moment, which is a bit unfortunate, but we will have to deal with that,” Pla said. “The car was good and we made a good improvement between the Roar and the week of the 24.”

Despite the disadvantage of less power Pla remained positive going into the 24-hour race which acts as the first round of the 2015 United SportsCar Championship.

“I am really happy it's going the right way. We know that we will have a deficit to compete with the DP and the other P2, but I see us doing our own race, but we must stay away from trouble and be clever.”

Co-piloting with Pla in the Ligier JS P2 for Saturday's race will be team owner Tracy W. Krohn, Nic Jonsson, and Alex Brundle.
