Jordan Taylor was in a philosophical mood as Wayne Taylor Racing's bid for a much desired Rolex 24 at Daytons victory fell by the wayside just ten minutes from the end.

Having overcome electrical problems at the start, the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette quickly regained ground during the first quarter of the race and enjoyed a largely trouble-free run thereafter and was never adrift of the lead fight.

Coming into the closing stages, though anchor driver Taylor ceded the lead to Chip Ganassi's Scott Dixon during the penultimate round of pit-stops with an hour to go, a late caution period brought him back onto the tail of his rival with just a few minutes of the race remaining.

However, his hopes of challenging for the win would be cruelly dashed when he was brought into the pit lane for a surprise driver change. It later became apparent that the team had miscalculated the permitted time Taylor could spend behind the wheel at one time and, had he finished the race, he would risk being disqualified.

To compound the issue, since this occurred during the full course yellow - when the pit lane is closed - the stop also garnered an additional penalty.

Dropping the team to a fairly distant third place by the time the chequered flag was dropped, Taylor - along with team-mates Ricky Taylor and Max Angelelli - nonetheless refused to level any blame at the team for a 'very minor' mistake.

"I haven't spoken to everyone, but I just know that you can't drive four hours in a six hour period and I think we were creeping up on that. It was just a small miscalculation, I think, an unfortunate one becsuse we were right where we kind of wanted to be, second place on the restart. I think we had a stronger car on cold tyres, so it was a perfect opportunity to make something happen.

"It's hard for us drivers to complain too much because our part of the race is very minor compared to what they have to do. We've gone 72 hours now without going to the garage once, without losing a lap, so that's testament to the team. We never have anything bad to say about them."

Despite missing out on the win, the result is still positive for WTR since the race-winning Chip Ganassi car will only contest selected events in 2015.
