WEC: SARD, Morand join forces for LMP2 entry

SARD and Morand Racing join forces for a full season WEC effort in the LMP2 class, plus a Le Mans 24 Hours effort.
The Japanese SARD outfit has announced it will be returning to international motorsport in 2015 with an FIA World Endurance Championship effort in collaboration with Morand Racing.

SARD (Sigma Advanced Racing Delivery) was a former regular at the Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing second overall in 1994 with a Toyota 94 CV prototype, but it hasn't competed in the race since 1997 and has been concentrating on domestic GT competition.

Its Le Mans return has been made possible by a collaboration with Morand Racing, which has been competing in the European Le Mans Series and regularly makes LMP2 Le Mans appearances.

For 2015, the SARD Morand team will enter a pair of Morgan-Judds into the LMP2 class of the Le Mans 24 Hours and a full season of the World Endurance Championship.

One car will be driven by ex-F1 driver Christian Klien with Super GT driver Koki Saga, while Pierre Ragues is paired with Oliver Webb, who switches from Signatech Alpine.

“For a young team like us, it is an honour to share our destiny with SARD RACING TEAM," said Benoit Morand. "SARD's long history demonstrates that this team has always been searching for new challenges while combining a professional spirit with a family environment.”

SARD-Morand adds to the growing number of LMP2 entries in WEC this season, with a full entry list to be announced later this week.
