WEC: IndyCar star to warm seat for competition winner

Tristan Vautier has been added to the Team SARD Morand line-up for the FIA World Endurance Championship races at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.
Former IndyCar rookie of the year Tristan Vautier will contest the first two rounds of this year's FIA World Endurance Championship, having been added to the growing Team SARD Morand line-up.

The Frenchman, who claimed his US honours during the 2013 season, is the fifth driver announced by the team, and will drive one of the two Morgan EVO SARDs entered in the LMP2 class at Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, joining Pierre Ragues and Oliver Webb at the wheel of the #43 car.

“It is an honour to join Team SARD Morand for these two events and to compete in my very first FIA WEC races,” the Grenoble native commented, “I would like to thank Benoit [Morand] and his partners for this opportunity. With Oliver and Pierre, we have a very good line-up and I am looking forward to starting work with the whole team.”

Already a winner in karting, Formula Renault and Palmer Audi, Vautier moved across the Atlantic in 2010 and took the Star Mazda title a year later. After progressing through the Indy Lights ranks, his one and only IndyCar season came with Schmidt Peterson Motorsport in 2013, and proved good enough to earn him the coveted rookie of the year title. Unable to hold on to his ride, however, Vautier moved to sportscars last season, competing in the LMP2 class of the Tudor United SportsCar Championship with Speedsource.

His initial role with SARD Morand will be limited to just two races, however, as the team has already committed to put the winner of its televised 'Race to 24' competition into the #43 from Le Mans onwards.

“I had a few very good options for the third seat in the first two rounds [but] what made the difference in favour of Tristan was that he was highly motivated to be in the car,” team owner Morand explained, “Tristan's race record speaks for itself [and] I think that he will bring us the experience and speed he acquired over the past few years in the TUSC and the IndyCar series. I am very happy with the bunch of drivers we have now under contract.”
