BES: Ecurie Ecosse gearing up for Blancpain return

Ecurie Ecosse will return to the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am class and have eyes for the title after missing out last year
Ecurie Ecosse will return to the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am class and have eyes for the title after missing out last year.

The Scottish team see Alasdair McCaig and Olly Bryant return to drive its BMW Z4 GT3 car and will be joined by Devon Modell, who replaces Andrew Smith. New driver Modell seriously impressed the team after finishing runner-up in the British GT4 championship and also grabbed a GT3 second place on his debut at the Nurburgring BES finale.

Ecurie Ecosse finished third in last year's drivers' and teams' championship and Modell is hopeful he can be the difference for this year for the Scottish outfit.

“It's a privilege to race for such an iconic name as Ecurie Ecosse,” Modell said. “In Olly and Alasdair I have two team-mates who came close to winning the title last year and hopefully I'll be the final piece of the puzzle. The boys at Barwell Motorsport know how to set the car up and run a team that gets the best out of everyone. I can't wait to be back behind the wheel and for the season to start.”

The Scottish team was founded by racing driver David Murray in 1951 and won the 1956 and 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans races. The team is currently enjoying an revial under team principal Hugh McCaig, when the team began racing again in 2011.

The team will also enter a car into the British GT championship after winning the drivers' title last year, with co-drivers Marco Attard and Alexander Sims, and McCaig is anticipating a successful season.

“I am delighted that Ecurie Ecosse are entering the European GT arena this year by competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series Pro-Am category with Olly Bryant, Devon Modell and Alasdair McCaig,” McCaig said. “The excellent relationship that we have also developed with BMW Motorsport underlines the strength of our team of people as a package.”

The BES season begins at Monza on 11-12 April.
