USCC: Rolex 24 Daytona winner Dixon gears up for Sebring

Rolex 24 Hour of Daytona winner Scott Dixon is hoping to maintain his momentum with Chip Ganassi Racing after he was confirmed as a driver in its number one for the 12 Hour of Sebring race next month.

The New Zealand racer, a three-time IndyCar champion, enjoyed a perfect start to 2015 with victory at Daytona and currently leads the United SportsCar Championship standings. The 34-year-old will co-drive alongside Scott Pruett and Joey Hand in the number two Ford EcoBoost car which won at Sebring last year.

“Sebring is one of those iconic motor races in the world and I think we'll have a good chance,” said Dixon. “The team started strong with a win in the Rolex 24 At Daytona with the No. 02 car this season, and the No. 01 car won in its Sebring debut last year. I'm looking forward to working with Scott and Joey again, and the whole IMSA program.”

The two-time Rolex 24 winner is also preparing for another season in the IndyCar series with Chip Ganassi Racing after finishing third in the drivers' standings in 2014.

“Obviously, we're starting off the year in a winning way, which is always exciting,” he added. “Winning the Rolex 24 was exciting for the team and a lot of fun. Hopefully, it's a sign of things to come, some momentum we can carry from the first part of the IndyCar season.

“Sebring was actually the first place I tested in America in an Indy Lights car,” Dixon said. “Sebring has been a staple testing circuit for as long as I've been in America. I've run the long circuit [for the Twelve Hours] in 2008, and won the pole driving the Acura LMP1 for Gil De Ferran.”

Dixon currently leads the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup standings with 13 points along with Tony Kanaan, Kyle Larsson and Jamie McMurray. The 12 Hour of Sebring race is scheduled for the 21st March.
