USCC: Pla tops practice in Krohn Ligier

Olivier Pla heads up the Sebring 12 Hours practice timesheets in the Krohn Racing Ligier P2 machine.
Olivier Pla has given Krohn Racing the early edge in free practice for the 2015 Sebring 12 Hours, round two of the United Sports Car Championship, as the LMP2 cars once again proved their pace over a single lap.

The Frenchman, who is signed to head up Nissan's burgeoning factory return to the LMP1 class at Le Mans this year, has been invited to the Sebring round – which will also form the second of four North American Endurance Cup events – by team owner/driver Tracy Krohn and Nic Jonsson to drive the P2 Judd-powered Ligier having proven fast at the season-opening Daytona event.

Stopping the clock at 1min 51.973secs, Pla would be three tenths faster than the Action Express Corvette DP machine of Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi and Sebastien Bourdais on the combined timesheets after the trio topped FP1.

A strong session for the P2 contingent, which showed fast qualifying pace in Daytona only to fade come race day, the MSR Ligier was third best in the hands of John Pew, Oswaldo Negri and IndyCar driver Justin Wilson., ahead of the Taylor Covette and the Corvette.

As it continues to develop the car ahead of competing full-time in the World Endurance Championship, the ESM HPD proved more competitive, going seventh and ninth, though the DeltaWing – which turned heads into Daytona – was only 14th overall.

In the GTLM class, the Corvette of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Ryan Briscoe led the way, while the Alex Job Porsche in the hands of Dominik Farnbacher topped the GTD category
