FULL WEC SILVERSTONE QUALIFYING RESULTS
Porsche has stormed ahead of its rivals for a front row lockout in qualifying for the FIA World Endurance Championship season opener at Silverstone.
The German manufacturer blew away its LMP1 competitors in a qualifying session which saw conditions vastly improve on free practice three, with Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley getting their number 17 Porsche 919 Hybrid on pole for tomorrow's race.
It was a front row lockout when Romain Dumas and Neel Jani put the number 18 Porsche second on the grid. Audi, who had topped all three practice sessions, were pushed back to third and fifth on the grid respectively.
Audi's number eight car, co-driven by Lucas Di Grassi, Loic Duval and Oliver Jarvis will start on the second row just after finishing just 0.030s ahead of defending champions Toyota with Anthony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima.
The second Audi car starts from fifth and Toyota's number two car in sixth for tomorrow's six hour race at the Northamptonshire track.
G-Drive Ligier, who had dominated the practice sessions, converted its quick early running to head the LMP2 category, taking seventh and eighth on the grid.
In the earlier qualifying session, the GTE Pro grid will be headed by Aston Martin Racing Vantage, as the team grabbed the first three qualifying slots. The British team also notched up top spot on the GT Am category.
WEC qualifying regulations see each car designate two drivers to take part in the 20 minute session. Each driver must set a least one flying time and the average of the quickest lap by each driver acts as their qualifying time.
