WEC: Nissan GT-R LM NISMO in 'final stages' of development

Nissan team boss Darren Cox confirms the team's new LMP1 challenger is almost ready to race and is heading to the US for a four-day test
Nissan team boss Darren Cox says the team is in the 'final stages' of testing the new LMP1 challenger ahead of its highly-anticipated debut, scheduled for Le Mans 24 Hours.

The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO and LMP1 drivers are heading to America for a four-day test this week as they gear up for the car to be homologated later this month. The team says it is a vital test to build up mileage on the new car after Nissan pulled out its LMP1 car from the opening two rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Speaking at Silverstone, Cox admitted he was disappointed to not be racing at the Northamptonshire track but insists the team is fully-committed to the sport.

“We are in the final stages of preparing our LM P1 car for its debut at Le Mans,” Cox said. “The next four days will provide us with the opportunity to really build up the mileage of the car to make sure we are ready for the race of our lives at Le Mans.

“It's a shame we couldn't race at Silverstone but we were very happy to open our door to the fans who have shown such a commitment to our sport. We have seen some incredible racing this weekend and we can't wait to add the P1 battle to the great competition we are facing in LM P2, LM P3 and GT3.”

LMP1 drivers Max Chilton, Marc Gene, Harry Tincknell, Olivier Pla and Jann Mardenborough are set to drive in the four-day test in the United States.
