The #18 Porsche of Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Neel Jani has topped an interrupted first practice session for the Spa 6 Hours after Kazuki Nakajima suffered a sizeable crash in wet conditions.

With rain making conditions tricky around the Belgian circuit, the best times were set in the first hour of the session, with the 919 Hybrid driven by the German-Swiss trio emerging quickest, albeit more than 15secs off last year's pole time.

However, the session was marred by a large accident involving Nakajima in the #1 Toyota TS040, who is believed to have lost control on the Kemmel straight, striking the back of Oliver Jarvis' Audi. The Japanese driver was taken to the medical centre, though WEC officials say 'he is fine'.

Causing heavy damage to the car - as well as prompting a 30mins extension to the session to make up for the red flag period -, Nakajima was still classified second fastest alongside team-mates Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Buemi, though largely because continuing poor conditions at the restart ensured no changes to the order.

Ahead of his first race with Porsche, F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg's #19 919 Hybrid - the car he will drive with Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber - was fourth quickest, just behind the sister #17 car of Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard. Audi followed in fifth, sixth and eighth, headed up by the third entered car of Rene Rast, Marco Bonanomi and Filip Albuquerque.

In the LMP2 class, the Strakka Racing DOME led the way, comfortably ahead of the wild-card JOTA Gibson and the #28 G-Driver Ligier.

In the GTE classes, Sven Muller and Kevin Estre were impressively quickest for the factory Porsche Manthey team, the two juniors getting a shot in WEC in place of the otherwise committed Patrick Pilet and Michael Christensen.
