Strakka Racing has topped the LMP2 timesheet with its Gibson 015S chassis in a two-day test at the Nurburgring which is set to replace the DOME S103 for the remainder of the 2015 World Endurance Championship.

The British team has opted to switch to the proven Gibson package (formerly known as Zytek) in response to the ACO reforming the LMP2 regulations and allowing just four manufacturers from 2017.

The change meant its DOME S103 was shelved after just three races so the team can fully focus on its step up to LMP1 in 18 months and will use the Gibson chassis for the remainder of the year.

The switch appears to initially have paid off after Strakka Racing topped the Nurburgring WEC test in changeable conditions, with Jonny Kane setting the fastest LMP2 time with a 1m 45.123s.

"It has been a successful test, getting to grips with the car and trying multiple setup options to see what it is sensitive to," Strakka Racing team principal Dan Walmsley said. "It's only a test and everyone runs their own programme, so times on test days don't mean too much but nonetheless it's a good feeling to be back at the sharp end."

Kane's co-driver Danny Watts says the updated Gibson felt like a competitive package almost instantly and is feeling confident ahead of the 6 Hours of Nurburgring next month.

"It's a car I drove a fair bit several years ago," says Danny Watts. "I thoroughly enjoyed driving it this week in its updated specification. I felt at home straight away in it. It feels easy to drive and it's very responsive. I'm definitely looking forward to racing it."

The team will now head back to its Silverstone base to finish preparing the LMP2 machine for its maiden competitive outing of 2015 at the Nurburgring on the 30th August, which will act as the fourth round of the WEC.
