WEC: JOTA makes move into WEC for 2016

After winning the 2014 Le Mans LMP2 title, JOTA will make its long-awaited full-time move into the World Endurance Championship next season.
Le Mans winners JOTA Sport has announced it will make the full-time switch to the World Endurance Championship next season with an Oreca 05 LMP2 prototype.

The British team has been competing in the European Le Mans Series with its venerable Zytek/Gibson Nissan in recent years, but a handful of wild-card forays into WEC has already yielded class wins in 2012 and 2015, as well as led to victory at the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours.

As a result, JOTA will commit to a full season of WEC racing for the first time next season with the Nissan-powered Oreca 05, which is currently dominating the WEC LMP2 class in the hands of the KCMG team.

“I am obviously very excited for JOTA Sport to be competing in the 2016 WEC,” said team partner and driver Simon Dolan. “We have proven over the last three years with our WEC wins at Le Mans and Spa that we will be immediately fighting for race wins while the LM P2 championship title is definitely our aim and within our grasp.

“We have been looking very closely at various chassis' and I'm delighted to announce our partnership with ORECA. We have been very impressed with the ORECA 05 having raced against one all season in both WEC and ELMS races. It was quick straight out of the box and just as importantly, has shown remarkable reliability.

“I am confident that we have chosen the best chassis for 2016 and beyond in to the new regulations.”

JOTA will continue to race in the ELMS series with its Gibson-Nissan next season, which it currently leads.
