WEC: Magnussen, Evans, Turvey handed Porsche test

Kevin Magnussen, Mitch Evans and Oliver Turvey have been handed a test programme with Porsche at the Circuit de Catalunya next month.
Kevin Magnussen has been handed a test programme with World Endurance Championship squad Porsche at the Circuit de Catalunya next month along with GP2 star Mitch Evans and former Le Mans 24 Hours winner and McLaren F1 test driver Oliver Turvey.

The former McLaren driver recently split from the Woking-based team after being denied a race seat for the 2016 Formula 1 season and has been actively searching for new options away from F1 while also being linked with a potential switch to Manor F1 for next season.

The German manufacturer confirmed the trio are preparing for a two-day test in Barcelona on the 10th and 11th of November with the Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 machine, which recently claimed victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours and leads the WEC championship with current driver squad of Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard.

Magnussen will be joined by New Zealander Evans who claimed the GP3 title in 2012 and is currently sixth in the GP2 standings with two rounds remaining.

Magnussen's former McLaren colleague Turvey is also preparing for the two-day Porsche test and will reconnect with Evans with whom he finished in second place at this year's Le Mans 24 Hours in the LMP2 class for Jota Sport.

The British driver has also begun his first full season in Formula E with the NEXTEV Team China Racing and finished sixth in the season opener at the Beijing ePrix last weekend.

Porsche LMP1 team principal Andreas Seidl confirmed via Twitter that the trio have already had seat fittings and began simulator work and is intrigued to see how the drivers do in Barcelona.

“We decided to give three young drivers a chance to test the Porsche 919 Hybrid,” Seidl said via Porsche Motorsport's Twitter account. “The seat fit and simulator preparation is already done. We are looking forward to the test and will see what the future brings."
