ELMS: Tincknell stays with JOTA Sport

Harry Tincknell will remain with JOTA Sport for a third consecutive campaign in the European Le Mans Series after narrowly missing out on the championship title for the past two years and joins Simon Dolan and ex-F1 star Giedo van der Garde.

The British driver will race JOTA's Gibson-Nissan in the six-race ELMS championship having finished second in the series in 2014 and third in 2015 – missing out on top honours by four points in both years.

In 2015, Tincknell landed a coveted driver spot in the factory Nissan NISMO squad ahead of its return to the FIA World Endurance Championship in LMP1 but after the programme stalled badly and was eventually ended last December, the 24-year-old was left without a full-time race programme in 2016.

The 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class winner, is delighted to remain with JOTA Sport and says he only has eyes on clinching the ELMS driver title after two near-misses.

"I'm delighted to have re-signed with JOTA Sport for a third consecutive year,” Tincknell said. “We've had a lot of success together over the past two seasons and I believe we've grown stronger as a team each year. My aim is to win the European Le Mans Series Championship title. We've come really close for the past two years and we need to nail it this year – and I firmly believe we can.

“The atmosphere at JOTA is absolutely fantastic and the team is going from strength to strength. It's great to be working with Simon again. He definitely had his best year of racing in 2015 and we work very closely together. I feel Simon and I, together with Giedo [van der Garde], can take another step forward in 2016 and bring home the championship."

Van der Garde announced he would be making his sportscar endurance racing debut with JOTA Sport earlier this month having endured a messy end to his contact with F1 squad Sauber which was taken to the Australian courts.
