WEC: Audi appeals against Silverstone exclusion

Audi Sport Team Joest has lodged an official appeal against the exclusion of its Silverstone 6 Hour-winning car.
Audi Sport Team Joest has lodged an official appeal against the exclusion of its Silverstone 6 Hour-winning #7 car of Marcel Fassler, Andre Lotterer and Benoit Treluyer.

The German marque was penalised for the thickness of the front skid block of its #7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro in reference to article 3.5.6 a3 of the LMP1 technical regulations, meaning it was excluded from a race win and completely out of the event entirely.

Audi has appealed against the exclusion handed to them by the Stewards' of the Meeting and the result will remain provisional until a decision at a sport tribunal.

The exclusion announcement came over six hours after the chequered flag fell at Silverstone which saw the #7 car take a second consecutive victory at the WEC season opener, with the #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Romain Dumas, Neel Jani and Marc Lieb in second and the #6 Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid of Mike Conway, Stephane Sarrazin and Kamui Kobayashi in third.

If the exclusion decision remains post-tribunal the #13 Rebellion Racing R-One of Dominik Kraihamer, Alexandre Imperatori and Matheo Tuscher will be promoted on to the overall podium in third.
