Aston Martin Racing adjusts GTE Pro driver line-up

Aston Martin reshuffles its driver line-up in a bid to consolidate its challenge for the WEC GT title.

Aston Martin Racing has revealed plans to consolidate its driver line-up ahead of the upcoming 6 Hours of Nürburgring.

Darren Turner will return to his more familiar entry number, joining Richie Stanaway in the #97 V8 Vantage GTE, while the Briton's departure from the 'Danetrain' #95 entry leaves the Danish pairing of Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen to share the car going forward.

Each entry will benefit from increased track time per driver and fewer compromises in their driving positions, and the changes will remain in place for the duration of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), as the team looks to focus its championship title bid in the second half of the season. Jonny Adam and Fernando Rees will remain within the Aston Martin Racing fold, but will not currently take part in any further WEC rounds in 2016.

"With the second half of the season due to begin, we have had to consider what is best for the team,” team principal Paul Howarth said, “With a focused driver line-up, this should help give us the best possible chance of success this year. I hope that Nicki, Marco, Darren and Richie will continue to push hard and keep us at the top of the GT manufacturers' table".

"I'd like to thank Fernando and Jonny for their efforts this year, particularly on their sterling job at Le Mans. They have each put in fantastic performances and we look forward to continuing to work with them in our wider Aston Martin Racing activities".

The team's GTE Am line-up of Paul Dalla Lana, Mathias Lauda and Pedro Lamy remains unchanged.
