WEC stars reveal how hybrids have changed driving

Off the back of the fourth round of the 2016 World Endurance Championship at the Nurburgring, a host of drivers explain how the hybrid technology in LMP1 cars has altered their race craft in a new way.

In a video with Road Racing Drivers Club and driver development programme SafeisFast.com, former and current WEC drivers give their insight into the challenges faced competing in the LMP1 mega-beasts and how their approach to driving has changed.

With the hybrid technology producing cutting-edge level of energy recovery from braking to push the energy back into the drivetrain, three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Allan McNish says how the prototype cars became 'like spaceships' when the technology was first introduced as part of the LMP1 regulations.

Two-time Le Mans winner Alex Wurz also explains it turns what drivers have previously known about racing to a completely new direction, when drivers need to brake much earlier but lighter to maintain speed while harvesting brake energy to get the boost out of the corner from the engine.

As well as the former endurance masters, current WEC LMP1 drivers give their insight into the changes the hybrid engines have sparked in driving skills, including the likes of Toyota's Sebastien Buemi, Anthony Daivdson and reigning WEC champion Brendon Hartley.
