FKS champions join the stars at the Autosport Awards

A special night for FKS champions
The Autosport Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London were a special occasion for the champions of Formula Kart Stars.

MSA British Cadet champion Daniel Ticktum, Mini Max's Josh White, Junior Rotax's James Singleton and KF3's Callum Ilott all received trophies for winning their respective championships.

As well as experiencing the wit of F1 2011 world champion Sebastian Vettel, the FKS champions witnessed former FKS series champion Paul di Resta receiving the Rookie of the Year award and McLaren's Jenson Button receiving the award for British Competition Driver of the Year. They also got to meet the stars during the course of the evening and there were plenty of opportunities for networking.

“I met Jenson Button and he was really laid back, a really nice guy,” said Ticktum. “The FKS title is the biggest championship I've won in karting. It was my toughest year in karting and will probably one of my toughest ever.”

One of the founders of FKS, Martin Hines or 'Mr Karting', who died this summer, was posthumously honoured.

“To be a part of one of the most important nights of the year in our sport is a tremendous honour,” said FKS championship director Carolynn Hoy. “It's a fantastic reward for all the hard work our champions put in over the course of the year and, of course, they get to meet many of their idols. But what our current drivers may not realise is that many of the major players in our industry are here and their names will be remembered by those players as they continue up the motorsport ladder.”

The FKS champions will now attend another presentation ceremony at the 2012 Autosport International Show at the Birmingham NEC in January. There they will receive TAG Heuer watches and FKS steering wheel trophies. FKS promises to provide the biggest stand in the karting section of the show and another special treat for karters is the appearance of multiple champion Terry Fullerton on centre stage.
