Cadet karter Josh Smith is aiming for Super One and Formula Kart Stars titles after being endorsed by Motorsport News as a 'Driver to Watch' for the 2012 season.

12 year-old Smith was ranked 28th on the annual list of 50 drivers for his performances in Super One and Formula Kart Stars last year. He finished sixth in Super One and ninth in Formula Kart Stars for Fusion Motorsport, one of the most successful teams in Cadets and the alma mater of 2011 Mclaren Autosport winner Oliver Rowland. The team also has links with the iZone performance facility at Silverstone and its drivers train there.

Smith turns 13 in April and thus 2012 will be his final year in Cadets. In reaction to being a listed as a one to watch he said: "I'm pretty amazed, I never expected it. It's astonishing really and I'm very proud. My goal for this year is to win both Super One and Formula Kart Stars titles and to keep my momentum from last year going."

A sign of that momentum was displayed last weekend at the second round of the ABkC KF O Plate series and Winter Cup at the PFI circuit in Lincolnshire. Smith won the final by three seconds after starting from 12th place.

As well as the championships, Smith will also race at the O Plate at Rowrah in June and Kartmasters at PFI International in August.
