Peace time in Junior TKM
5 October 2010
James Peace overcame the predictable nerves to narrowly clinch the 2010 Super One Junior TKM title in treacherous conditions at Buckmore Park in Kent.
Peace, who came into 2010 as an unseeded driver, completed a season in which he has continually overturned the formbook despite some nervous moments both in the heats and especially in the first final.
After finishing third and fifth in his first two heats Peace could only finish 12th in his third heat, which put him in the middle of the pack for the first final, a dangerous place to be on a day when rain drenched the track and made visibility extremely difficult.
Sure enough Peace became the victim of a first lap pileup on final one, dropping to 23rd and with his main title rival James Raven having already finished ahead of him in all three heats, including a win in heat two, things looked bleak for Peace.
However Peace recovered to 12th by the end but with Raven in third behind winner Will Van Es and Ash Robinson, Peace still had work to do in the second final.
In the second, critical, final it was Raven who hit trouble, hitting the tyres and retiring on lap nine, effectively handing the title to Peace provided he stayed out of trouble. Despite the conditions Peace did just that and claimed sixth place, to win the championship by 35 points.
Van Es completed the round double with another win to secure third place in the standings ahead of Robinson, who finished third in the second final behind Daniel Burton.
